Thursday 5th September   Doors 7.00pm

Multi-award winning Merry Hell offer joyful, uplifting folk-rock, with a message for troubled times. Native to the North-West of England, the 8-piece musical charabanc was built from the embers of the much-loved folk-punk band The Tansads, before developing a life and feel all of its own. Their energy and passion is complimented by their love of what they do and desire to share hope and togetherness with as many people as are willing to listen. Through 6 well-received albums and hundreds of gigs, they’ve offered voices of hope and beacons of light to anyone valuing spirit, energy, melody and positive humanity.

Jess Silk

Thursday 19th September  2024  Doors 7.00pm

Self-styled as a shouty folk/punk singer-songwriter Jess Silk plays to audiences up and down the UK, on the festival circuit, supporting many well known names among the folk/punk scene and as a headliner in her own right.

Playing hard-hitting sets to festival crowds is where Jess is most comfortable, and so An Evening With Jess Silk will have her stepping out of her comfort zone and bringing something a bit different. With two full length albums, a stack of EPs and an extensive back catalogue Jess will be sharing perhaps some of her more nuanced work, as well as the usual gig favourites (and maybe even a couple of choice covers!) at a rare seated gig at her spiritual home of Katie Fitzgerald’s in Stourbridge.

An Evening With Jess Silk is a chance to hear Jess talk more about her songwriting and inspirations, and to listen to some of her more subdued, yet equally thought provoking, songs that don’t often get an outing in the hubbub of her usual gigs.

£12.50 early bird £15.00 OTD

The John Richards Band

Saturday 21st September 2024  Doors 7.00pm

wgt_stacked_flat_rgb_600.jpeg

It’s fifty one years since the first John Richards songs were recorded and released on L.P. by John and Bev Pegg.
The one song that they cowrote on that LP was adopted by Robin Dransfield, then Paul Downes and Phil Beer, The Arizona Smoke Review and more recently Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar.
Since then John has had songs covered by Fairport Convention, Simon Nicol solo, Paul Downes, Show of Hands, Phil Beer, , Mike Silver, Keith Kendrick and Sylvia Needham and a long list of folk club residents and singers. Although Fairport recorded John’s ‘Honour & Praise’ in 1985, it still appears in their sets and was included again on their most recent album release.
During his years in folk music John was a member of Maurice and the Minors, then the roots rock band Desperate Men, and from 2000 on, various line ups of the John Richards Band. Ten CD’s have been released over recent years and the band and John’s songs continue to enjoy an enviable reputation.
This line up consists of :-
John – Vocals, guitar and bouzouki
Emma Jones – vocals
Jim Sutton – Bass and Keyboards
Julia Disney – fiddle and vocals.
