MAY 2025

Sunday 10th May

Funny Beeseness presents

FITZ OF LAUGHTER

MARK THOMAS

Mark Thomas is widely recognised as one of the boldest and the most uncompromising comedians in the last twenty years, who has had no qualms in combining comedy with political activism.

Prior to his most renowned vehicle, The Mark Thomas Comedy Product, Thomas was a frequent guest comic on the BBC Radio 1 show The Mary Whitehouse Experience, where he would do a routine about a specific topic of the week and involve studio audience members in the discussions. He would also occasionally play parts in sketches written by the show's main performers.

He then became the resident stand-up comic on Saturday Zoo, a Channel 4 comedy series first screened in 1993 and appeared on an episode of Have I Got News for You. He co-presented the highly successful Radio 1 comedy talk show Loose Talk with Kevin Day, and is a founder member of the London Comedy Store's hard hitting Cutting Edge show.

His political comedy show, The Mark Thomas Comedy Product (later renamed as simply The Mark Thomas Product, to reflect its increasing political agenda) on Channel 4 earned him criticism from politicians but was seen by critics as a crucial investigative tool

Gren Bartley

wgt_stacked_flat_rgb_600.jpeg

Gren Bartley is a UK singer-songwriter and guitarist working somewhere between cinematic folk, intimate acoustic songwriting and finely detailed guitar work. Across a run of acclaimed releases, he has built a reputation for records that are atmospheric, melodic and unmistakably his own.

His 2015 album Magnificent Creatures (★★★★★ R2 Magazine), produced by Gavin Monaghan, received outstanding reviews and helped take his music to festivals and venues across the UK and beyond. In 2019 he released Quiet (★★★★★ Northern Sky Magazine), a more stripped-back collection drawing on folk, world music and bottleneck slide guitar, which earned further critical praise.

His new album Sunsets, Circles and Waves is released on 15 May 2026. Recorded live in complete takes with no overdubs, it captures the warmth and intimacy of a real performance while deepening the reflective, immersive quality that runs through his work.

Gren Bartley writes songs with the instinct of a folk artist and the detail of a craftsman. Drawing on older traditions without sounding trapped by them, he has developed a style that feels warm, immersive and entirely his own.

The Bushburys +
the Empty Can

 * IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT *

Due to the current madness enveloping the world at the moment, unfortunately the line up for The Bushburys gig on Sunday May 24th has changed.
Brian sadly is no longer able to make it from his home in the Philippines, due to flights and we are all very sad about this but we have decided to continue with the later line up of The Bushburys featuring Eddy Morton, Mickey Barker, Buzby Bywater, Gerry Smith and Lucy Hill in order to bring you the same fun afternoon of great songs and memories. The show will still feature some old favourites such as Colours, London Road, Thats the Way of the World and Faith Healer and we sincerely hope that you will still come along and support the day, if only to see if Eddy can still do ‘that jump’ …….. It will be a standing, dancing sort of day but if you would prefer to sit down we can most definitely accommodate you, so no need to worry.
The New Bushbury Mountain daredevils line up will now be appearing here in September 2027 when all line ups and special guests will feature in a celebration of 35 years of the Bushburys and we cannot wait for this, but, in the meantime, ‘the show must go on’!

But wait there is yet more excitement, joining us on Sunday 24th May will be the wonderful ‘Empty Can’ who will be performing the early set in support to get you going and we know you will love them as much as we do.

There are still tix available if you would like to come along. It will be a very special afternoon.

This will be a standing show but there will be seats available for those who need them.
